Caminho de Santiago
For more than a thousand years, pilgrims from all over the world have travelled to Santiago de Compostela. Some walk for adventure, some for faith, some for reflection, and many for reasons that become clear only along the way.
Caminha occupies a special place on the Caminho Português da Costa. Here, the River Minho meets the Atlantic Ocean, and pilgrims must decide which path to follow.
One route continues north along the Spanish coastline towards Vigo. The other follows the original and historic route along the River Minho towards Vila Nova de Cerveira, Valença and Tui before continuing towards Santiago.
Whichever route is chosen, the spirit of the Camino remains the same: one step at a time.
CAMINHA and the BIG QUESTION ⁉️🤔😅
Crossing the Bridge or Taking the Boat? Which way is better...
- The Original Caminho Portugues da Costa - Coast and River Minho?
- Or stay along the Spanish Coast through Vigo?
COMPARE the two different ways, leaving Caminha in different directions, to find the one that is better suited for you.
What many pilgrims don't know:
The river route offers beautiful landscapes, quiet villages, vineyards, forests, ancient paths and magnificent views of the Minho. It is a little calmer, a little greener and one of the hidden treasures of the Portuguese Camino.

Captain's note
The captain's answer is always the same:
The one you're walking.
At least until the next coffee stop.
